Some collaborations just make sense on paper, and [Mark Wahlberg](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Wahlberg) teaming up again with a director fresh off a Netflix smash hit is exactly that kind of pairing. Joe Carnahan, who recently steered *The Rip* to major streaming success, has signed on to direct Wahlberg’s next action-thriller, *The Operator* — and the premise alone promises exactly the kind of tense, high-stakes ride fans of the genre live for.

Wahlberg plays a former Tier One military operator turned CIA “cleaner” — the guy who handles the messy jobs nobody wants their name attached to. But when he’s ordered to protect the one person he despises most, a routine extraction spirals into a deadly game of survival where trust is the scarcest resource of all.

## Why This One’s Worth Watching For

Carnahan has a knack for blending grit with genuine tension, and pairing that sensibility with Wahlberg’s established action-movie instincts feels like a natural extension of what made *The Rip* click with audiences. Add writer Harrison Query’s growing reputation in the action-thriller space, and *The Operator* has the ingredients for another Netflix original built for repeat viewing.

With the film still in pre-production and no cast beyond Wahlberg confirmed, there’s plenty still to learn — but given how quickly Netflix has been moving on similar projects, updates on filming timelines shouldn’t be far off.
