Mario Rivera has been appointed as the head coach of SC East Bengal until the end of the season. The club has confirmed the appointment of the coach on their official website and social media.

The new manager will have to undergo the quarantine period as per the ISL rules before he takes charge of the team.

Homecoming for Mario Rivera

Mario Rivera was previously the manager of East Bengal in the I-League in 2019/20, right before they joined the ISL. The Red and Gold outfit were last in the table, and the appointment of the Spaniard helped them finish second behind Mohun Bagan.

“We are happy to appoint him as our head coach. Mario has been part of East Bengal previously and his experience in Indian football will be beneficial to the team for the rest of the season,” said SC East Bengal CEO Col. Shivaji Samaddar.

Rivera returns to the club and is presented with a similar situation to his first time in charge. The expectation from fans would be to repeat the same feat he achieved during his first spell with the club.

SC East Bengal had to part ways with Jose Manuel Diaz a few days ago. The team is winless in eight games so far this season, and the clash between the coaching staff and players has only further contributed to the tension. The arrival of Rivera might provide some sense of direction and stability to the club, and lift them up from the bottom.
