Mario Draghi to improve Italy’s cybersecurity post addition of new units towards the cause

The Italian government is speeding up plans to create new cybersecurity unit directly under Prime Minister Mario Draghi to protect Italy from futher cyber attacks and to accelerate the process of digitalization of the nation.

The newly created unit will organize a centralized strategy to overcome potential security threats regarding cybersecurity management. The aforementioned will be handled by a committee chaired by the members of the Italian Prime Minister’s office.

Rome’s latest update towards Cybersecurity has enabled Italy to speed up the process of digitalization and make the country’s networking systems and the processes involved in this more secure.

In the past 5 years cybercrime has increased exponentially with the increase in digitalization process. Reports have displayed that in the year 2020 cybercrime increased by 12% along with that Italy also saw an 30% increase in espionage and sabotage.

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said last month that web interference from Russia was “alarming,” which has alerted the Prime Minister regarding the digital security.

Cybercrime have been on a rise for quite a while, crimes based on fraudulent accounts to launder money, to commence sale of illegal products and procure and sell information from the general users.
