Marco Asensio was fuming yesterday after being left out of yet another Real Madrid game in La Liga. The winger has only played 17 minutes of football so far, and was sent back to the bench after being asked to warm up.
Dani Carvajal, Nacho, Luka Modric and Eduardo Camavinga were sent on as the defending La Liga champions won 4-1 against Mallorca. Upon Ancelotti not sending him on, Asensio threw off his bib, kicked a cool box and tossed his water bottle to the ground in frustration.
Marco Asensio frustrated with Real Madrid playing time
‘If he’s angry, I agree with him,’ Carlo Ancelotti said about Marco Asensio. ‘It’s normal, it means he wants to play, to feel important. In this period, he has been the player most affected in the squad and I take that into account. I’m totally in agreement with his anger. It’s fine.’
With only one year remaining on his contract, there have been rumours that the Spaniard wants to leave the club especially given the lack of playing time. Ancelotti has acknowledged this as a possibility for the winger, and several clubs could look to swoop him up when his contract runs out next summer.
But it is likely that he might not be given a spot in the Spain national team in the World Cup considering the lack of playing time.
