Marcelo has officially left Olympiacos after his contract was terminated by the club. The left-back signed only this past summer, and has left them five months later amidst interest from a foreign club.

He made ten appearances for them, and scored three goals during his time with the Greek side. And now, he will be returning to his family with Madrid before choosing the team that he will be playing for next. The defender exited Real Madrid this past summer as their most decorated player of all-time, winning 25 trophies with them over a span of 15 years.

Marcelo leaves Olympiacos to search for new club

“I have lived unforgettable moments in Greece. Piraeus and its people have all my heart,” Marcelo said on social media.

“This won’t be my last time in this amazing country. I can only express gratitude for wearing the Olympiakos jersey. Even though the brief stay, the experience and the friends I made there will be forever marked in my life.”

“The entire Olympiacos family would like to thank Marcelo for his cooperation and presence in Olympiacos,” an official statement from the club read.

“The time he stayed with us was brief but enough to create everlasting bonds. He knows that in Greece, in Piraeus he will always have friends!”

It now remains to be seen where the next chapter of Marcelo’s career takes him, and whether a return to Europe’s big leagues could be on the cards.
