Renowned Spanish news site Marca has released their Best XI of the 2021/22 season. The line-up features players from the Champions League winners, Real Madrid, the runners-up, Liverpool, and Premier League champions Manchester City.

The line-up has been voted on by 71 members of the jury, and features a 4-3-3 formation. Here is the line-up in its entirety.

Marca’s Best XI of the 2021/22 season

GK: Thibaut Courtois (RMA)

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold (LFC)

CB: Virgil Van Dijk (LFC)

CB: David Alaba (RMA)

LB: Joao Cancelo (MCI)

CM: Kevin De Bruyne (MCI)

CM: Luka Modric (RMA)

CDM: Rodri (MCI)

RW: Mohamed Salah (LFC)

ST: Karim Benzema (RMA)

LW: Vinicius Jr (RMA)

Thibaut Courtois takes the spot between the sticks for his heroics throughout Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign. Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool slot make up the right side of the defense.

David Alaba is the other central defender, on the back of his debut season in Spain. Joao Cancelo makes it to left-back despite playing in an inverted position, which only goes to show how good he really is.

The midfield consists of Kevin De Bruyne and Luka Modric, both of whom are undisputable names. However, some would be hesitant to include Rodri in the Best XI of the 2021/22 season, owing to competition from some of the best in the world.

The front-three, however, has little debate. Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr are the best in the world in their positions right now. And despite Mohamed Salah’s drop in form after AFCON, he was able to regain some momentum and finish the season with the Golden Boot and the award for most assists too.
