Marc Cucurella has reportedly handed in a transfer request to Brighton only one year after signing for the Seagulls. The Spaniard is the top transfer target for Manchester City in the left-back position, and now, a deal is looking likely.
Personal terms are not an issue between the player and City. Only the two clubs need to finalise a transfer fee for the move to go through. But as of right now, they are quite far apart in their valuation of Cucurella.
Marc Cucurella hands in transfer request to Brighton
Pep Guardiola was recently asked about Manchester City’s interest in Marc Cucurella, and here is what he had to say: “He’s a Brighton player. I cannot say anything else. New left back? “If it’s possible, yes, if not, we stay”.
“Cancelo can play there, Wilson-Esbrand, Ake… I never complain about the squad I have”.
City recently sold Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal and want to sign a new first choice left-back to compete with Joao Cancelo. A bid worth £30 million was made for the Brighton defender, but was rejected. Graham Potter’s side want £50 million at the very least for their player who has several years left on his current deal.
The negotiations are in the initial phase right now, but it is difficult for City to maneuver without paying excess.
