Barcelona have decided to extend the contract of Marc Bernal till 2029. The youngster broke into the first team this summer under Hansi Flick, but suffered an unfortunate ACL injury in the 2-1 loss to Rayo Vallecano.
He is expected to miss the entirety of the season, but the club considers him a big part of their future. As a result, they have renewed his contract and have added a €500 million release clause into the deal, as is the case with most of their academy graduates.

Aged just 17, the youngster showed great potential in preseason and in the first few games before his injury. Culers went as far as to consider him a mainstay in defensive midfield following the departure of Sergio Busquets.
However, the injury has deterred his momentum for the time being. Bernal could make a comeback towards the end of the season to offer the club a boost, but it depends on how he is able to recover in the coming months.
Barcelona have been very unlucky with injuries, with club captain Marc Andre ter Stegen being the latest to face an extended spell on the sidelines. The club has since signed Wojciech Szczesny, who has come out of retirement to play for the Spanish giants.
