“The day had to come at some point. Today my career with the German national team ends. Everyone who knows me knows that his decision wasn’t easy for me,” Manuel Neuer wrote.

“Winning the World Cup title in 2014 and the special atmosphere during the European Championship at home this year are highlights for which I am extremely grateful.

“It was an honour for me to be captain of our national team until 2023. I loved wearing the Germany jersey.”

The 38-year-old redefined the meaning of a modern goalkeeper with his incredible ability on the ball, alongside being a solid shotstopper. He has had a legendary career, and is now in the home stretch of his professional career.

Has Neuer won the World Cup?

Yes, the 2014 World Cup with Germany.
