Manchester United have had their initial approach for Paris Saint-Germain head coach Mauricio Pochettino rejected. The Argentinian is one of the favourites to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjær as the manager. However, he has a contract with PSG running until 2023.
Pochettino has stated that he is happy at the French capital, and has insisted that we need to stay in the present when talking about football. He has not completely ruled out a move to Old Trafford either, but has reaffirmed that he is content with his position as the manager of the French giants.
Solskjær was sacked after a string of humiliating defeats in the Premier League. The 5-0 loss to Liverpool, 2-0 loss to Manchester City and 4-1 away defeat to Watford resulted in the Norwegian ultimately losing his job.
Manchester United have said that they want to hire an interim manager for the remainder of the 2021/22 season before starting with a permanent candidate next season. Michael Carrick is currently in charge of the first team, and earned his first win in charge against Villarreal last night.
Ernesto Valverde, formerly of Barcelona, is one of the names that is being rumoured to be the interim manager. Initial talks have been held between the two parties and they are yet to reach an agreement regarding a deal. The Spaniard has been out of a job since January 2020, after being sacked by Barcelona.
United also have other names on their list, but Pochettino is among the top candidates to take charge.
