Manchester United are interested in signing Napoli defender Kim Min Jae this summer. The Korean has a release clause in the region of €40 million in his deal, which will be valid for a few days in July.

The Premier League club have been interested in him for a while, but have not presented a concrete offer yet. Napoli, on the other hand, are aware of the situation and are planning to offer him a new contract.

The defender has been extremely important to the Azzurri’s success this season. In his very first season with them, he helped them end their drought for silverware and earn their third-ever Scudetto.

However, it will be quite difficult for him to be prized away considering how difficult Napoli are in terms of negotiations. He joined them this past summer from Fenerbahce, and has quickly become a popular figure, attracting interest from several top clubs.

There is a slight chance that Kim Min Jae could leave Napoli, though. And in that event, Ajax defender Jurrien Timber has been identified as the replacement for the 26-year-old. But there is no agreement with the club or the player as things stand.

United are expecting a mass clearout this summer, with Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Axel Tuanzebe to leave. And this is set to open up a number of spots for new players to come in. It now remains to be seen how matters progress with Napoli, and whether a deal can be struck.
