Manchester United stops the unbeaten run of their neighbour Manchester City. The Red Devils beat the Pep Guardiola’s side by 2-0.
Manchester City was 28 games unbeaten in all competition. Manchester United travelled to Etihad to stop the league leader’s flawless run.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men took the lead at the first minute of the game as Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot. Anthony Martial was brought down in the box within 40 seconds of the game by Gabriel Jesus. The Red Devils doubled the lead in the second half as Luke Shaw scored for Manchester United.
The Citizens tried their best but failed to break the deadlock. With this win, Manchester United is now in second position and 11 points behind their neighbour in the league. After the match, Pep Guardiola said, “Congratulations Manchester United first of all.”
“Ten games left, now arrive the important part of the season. The last 10 games are important and we start next Wednesday. We will try to win as many games as possible to be champions.”
“Against West Ham we played much, much worse than today. Against West Ham, we didn’t deserve to win and maybe today we didn’t deserve to lose. We were not good in front of goal, our strikers were not brilliant today but it happens.”
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked about the title hope of Manchester United. Ole replied, “No, we just take one game time. They are too far ahead to think we can catch them. They have been excellent. Even today they put you under so much pressure.”
Manchester United will face West Ham United on Sunday whereas Manchester City will take Southampton in the midweek.
