Manchester United are planning to enforce a new rule with regards to their wage structure. The primary reason behind this is the difficulty they had to face with Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese striker was one of the highest paid players in the Premier League, and the club is keen to avoid a repeat of such a situation.
He mutually agreed an exit from the club after the relationship between them broke down completely. And now, United want to limit the salary of most of the squad players to around €9-10 million per season.
Manchester United plan to implement new wage structure
David De Gea is now the highest earner in the team, following Ronaldo’s move to Al-Nassr. While the Spaniard is still the number one option for Erik Ten Hag, his performances haven’t been as consistent as expected. And with his deal set to run out soon, United will probably be strict with the kind of money they offer him in case they plan to offer him a new contract.
Marcus Rashford is also one of the top players in the team that is a priority renewal. And Manchester United will need to be cautious not to overspend on contracts, if indeed they want to maintain a sustainable structure.
It now remains to be seen whether the Ten Hag era can mean a new chapter for the club behind the scenes as well.
