According to ESPN, Manchester United are considering signing Kylian Mbappe in 2022. The Frenchman currently has only one year left on his deal with PSG and is not negotiating a new one.
As a result, if the situation persists, he will be available for free next year. Although Real Madrid is being heavily rumoured as the most likely destination, Manchester United will surely try to recruit the player as well. Especially when he will be available for free.
United have their attacking lineup sorted for this year, with Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani in contention. Cavani has impressed strongly despite being well into his 30s, and his contract with the Red Devils expires at the end of the season.
So while United have this year covered, they will have to search for a replacement in 2022 and it seems they are thinking long-term by targeting Mbappe. The Frenchman could yet leave PSG this summer, with Real Madrid waiting patiently for a phone call from Nasser Al-Khelaifi for Mbappe. Madrid could still pay a sum worth €150 million for his signature in the next few days and have their man.
Al-Khelaifi has insisted that Mbappe is happy at the club and is staying, but only time will tell what happens with his future.
Manchester United enjoyed a fruitful transfer window this summer by recruiting Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. With such a strong lineup at the disposal of Ole Gunnar Solskjær, the club are once again genuine title contender.Â
