Manchester United have confirmed their interest in Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane, and they are now back in direct contact with his entourage for a transfer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League club will launch an official bid once they are clear about Real Madrid’s position on their player. The Spanish giants have tried negotiating a new contract with Varane numerous times. However, he has rejected their advances every time.

As of right now, he has one year left on his current deal with Los Blancos. And if they do not sell him this summer, they will have to let him go for free next summer. Hence, it would be better to sell him this summer and earn a decent transfer fee in the process.

Negotiations regarding personal terms between Varane and Manchester United are not a problem since he wants to try something new in his career. And he has made that abundantly clear, especially with him not willing to negotiate a new deal with Madrid.

A fee worth around €40 million is being rumoured for the French centre-back, who has been at the Spanish capital for a decade. He has won everything there is to win with the club, including the league title, Champions League and all other super cups. Along with Sergio Ramos, he will be the second first-team defender to leave the club this summer, leaving a massive hole in Madrid’s backline ahead of the new season.
