Arsenal’s perfect start to the season has come to an end, with a 3-1 defeat to rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford. A brace from Marcus Rashford and a debut goal for new signing Antony was enough to seal the win for Erik Ten Hag’s side.
The visitors had some impressive patches, and had several clear cut chances in the initial part of the game too. They thought they had the lead early on, with Gabriel Martinelli scoring from a counter attack. But a lengthy VAR check, which involved the pitch side monitor being consulted, ruled it out for a foul by Martin Odegaard in the build-up.
Manchester United earn huge win against in-form Arsenal
Antony bended the ball around David De Gea shortly before half time to give his side the lead. The Brazilian was impressive throughout the game, and eventually made way for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Both of Rashford’s goals came from a counter attack, with the Englishman also providing an assist in a remarkable performance. Bukayo Saka also managed to get on the scoresheet on his birthday, but it wasn’t enough to keep United at bay.
United now have 12 points from their opening six games while Arsenal remain table toppers with 15 from their first five wins. Arsenal will now turn their attention to Everton, while Manchester United will face Crystal Palace.
