Manchester United advance to EFL Cup finals after defeating Nottingham Forest
During the first half, Manchester United looked a little sluggish. Considering they already had a 3-0 advantage heading into the tie, it can seem quite obvious that they didn’t need to put in too much effort. However, Erik Ten Hag’s determination to perform in every outing was highlighted by his criticism of the first half, and he urged his side to do better.
Alejandro Garnacho was the best attacker for Manchester United during the first half, taking on his man and creating all kinds of trouble. However, the rest of the team seemed quite laid back on the pitch.
The absence of Christian Eriksen was also felt strongly, with Fred being unable to provide the same assurance and quality from central areas. The arrival of Marcel Sabitzer will no doubt help deal with the Dane’s injury, as their qualities are quite similar.
Marcus Rashford assisted both goals in quick succession, as Anthony Martial marked his return with a goal. And while Fred wasn’t able to dictate play in the same way, he was able to score the second goal to end all hopes of a late comeback.
The Red Devils will be going up against a determined Newcastle United in the finals. And it is anybody’s guess as to who wins the tournament this time around.
