Everton held Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, with Andros Townsend scoring for the Toffees to equalise. The player then mocked Cristiano Ronaldo with the ‘Siuu’ celebration at Old Trafford. Townsend’s goal means that United have now gone nine home games without keeping a clean sheet at home, their worst run in the Premier League since 1971.
The Merseyside club played very well and could have gotten all three points, with Yerry Mina netting in the 85th minute. However, his goal was ruled out by VAR as both teams shared a point each to kick off the Premier League weekend.
Out of favour, Manchester United forward Anthony Martial scored for the home team, after starting the game. His goal was assisted by captain Bruno Fernandes right before half time, but the lead did not last long.
Everton had several more chances to go in front, and in-form star Demarai Gray was a constant menace for United’s defenders. With Harry Maguire out due to injury, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane partnered at the back but had to work hard to salvage a point from the game.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not start Cristiano Ronaldo in the game, and Edinson Cavani was chosen ahead of the number 7. He was substituted in the second half, but Ronaldo was unable to provide a substantial contribution to give his team the win once again. The United boss confirmed that he believes that the lineup he chose for the game was the right decision, but the scoreline possibly does not reflect the same.
