Manchester United completed Ralf Rangnick’s first game in the dugout with a 1-0 win against Crystal Palace. Fred scored the only goal of the game from outside the box, and it was enough to seal all three points for the Red Devils.
A lot of speculation was there in anticipation of Rangnick taking charge of Manchester United. The German tactician’s high-pressing style is one of the most unique parts of his management. And in the first half, we did see exactly what the Gegenpressing Godfather has in store.
United pressed high, and made it very difficult for Palace to play out of their own half. They enjoyed the majority of possession as a result, and ended up creating a number of chances as a result. However, no goals came out of the first half for either team.
The second half saw Palace grow into the game and United ease off on the pressure. The Eagles took the game to Manchester United and were willing to try and find the winner. However, they were unable to create meaningful challenges against David De Gea from open play.
Crystal Palace tried to find an equaliser until the final minute. However, United’s defense was solid as they kept a clean sheet in their first game under their new boss. They now climb to sixth place in the table, and will face BSC Young Boys in their final Champions League group stage match.
Crystal Palace, on the other hand, face off against Everton next weekend.
