Manchester City and Real Madrid played out a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu, in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final clash. Both goals scored were eye-catching screamers from well outside the box, with Aurelien Tchouameni coming close to making it 2-1 for his side with a similar long-range effort later on in the game.
Both teams are still very much in the tie, with a spot in the final well within the reach of both teams. But the decision will be made at the Etihad Stadium next week in front of City’s home fans.
Real Madrid vs Manchester City: All to play for after intense first leg
Vinicius Jr opened the scoring in the first half, with an absolute belter. Eduardo Camavinga ran the length of the pitch following a turnover deep in Real’s defensive half, and had a major part to play in setting up the opener.
Kevin De Bruyne scored from almost the same spot, unleashing a powerful strike to beat Thibaut Courtois from outside the box. City, on the other hand, managed to test Courtois on several occasions, but never really looked like scoring. De Bruyne went on to win the man of the match award for his goal in the second half.
Erling Haaland was marked out of the game by a determined Antonio Rudiger, with the Norwegian barely involved in the opposition box. Although Real Madrid didn’t have the most possession, they were able to create higher quality chances and give Ederson a lot to think about.
