Manchester City transfer news: Ilkay Gundogan remains undecided about his future, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. The midfielder has attracted interest over a move to Barcelona, and hasn’t turned down that option yet.
There is also another club that has made the player an offer. But he is taking his time to decide his future. At 32, he is in the twilight years of his career and a new contract would mean he retires with the club he has a contract with.
Manchester City transfer news: Ilkay Gundogan renewal update
Since making the move to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2016, Gundogan has been a very reliable option in midfield. The Germany international has 53 goals and 37 assists in 290 games, and scored the title winning goal last season in City’s final day game against Aston Villa.
He has won a wealth of silverware during his seven years with the Sky Blues, except the Champions League. The closest he came to the trophy was in the 2021 final, when City were defeated by Chelsea.
Barcelona’s financial issues mean that they will only be able to sign players for free. And Ilkay Gundogan could be a great replacement for Sergio Busquets, if he is to leave at the end of the season. The German is a leader on the pitch, and could be a great presence alongside Pedri, Gavi and Frenkie De Jong in the centre of the park.
