Manchester City have successfully retained their Premier League title after a nerve-wracking final matchday. They came back from 2-0 down to beat Aston Villa 3-2 at home to win the league once again.

Ilkay Gundogan emerged as the hero for Pep Guardiola’s men, as they ended Liverpool’s hopes of winning the quadruple with an absolute thriller. The midfielder came on as a substitute in the 60th minute, and scored a brace to help his side to the most important win of their season.

Liverpool had gone down early in their game against Wolves at Anfield. But, with goals from Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah, they were able to get to a 3-1 win at Anfield to put all the pressure on Manchester City.

The Etihad Stadium was in despair as former Liverpool player Philippe Coutinho scored for Aston Villa in the second half. But, Gundogan inspired his side to a comeback in a very short amount of time.

After yet another intense finish to the season, City have won the Premier League title for the fourth time in five years. Mohamed Salah and Heung-min Son have finished as the joint-top scorers in the league. While Salah has scored several goals from penalties, all of Son’s goals have come from open play.

Liverpool can still secure the treble this season, with a win against Real Madrid in Paris in the Champions League final.
