Manchester City ran riot against Arsenal in their home fixture and handed the Gunners their third consecutive loss of the Premier League season. Pep Guardiola defeated his former apprentice 5-0, as Arsenal finished the game with 10 men after Granit Xhaka was sent off in the first half.

While Man City’s second goal came after Aymeric Laporte had ‘slapped’ Callum Chambers, and it probably should have been disallowed, VAR waved it on alongside the on-pitch referee. The scoring began early when Ilkay Gundogan converted in the seventh minute.

Although Arsenal started the game brightly, they were out of it within the first 15 minutes. Ferran Torres doubled the lead of the Premier League Champions at 12 minutes into the game. Both goals should have been dealt with by the defenders, but they lead to successful attempts at goal.

Xhaka was sent off for a rather reckless challenge after 30 minutes into the game, and that only shifted the odds more in favour of the home team. Gabriel Jesus got himself onto the scoresheet shortly before halftime, adding to his assist for Gundogan’s opener.

Rodri made it four for the Sky Blues on the other side of the break, and Ferran Torres doubled up late in the game to put five past Arsenal and end their misery.

Arsenal are currently in 20th, with the worst goal difference in the Premier League right now. Mikel Arteta will have to make a big change in the mentality of his players if they are to turn things around in the upcoming games.
