Now that Sergio Aguero is confirmed to be leaving Manchester City at the end of the season, it is only common to speculate that the club will be having plans to sign a new striker in the summer. However, they are only willing to negotiate at the right price with smart deals.
As mentioned by Peo Guardiola, City are not gonna buy big strikers by breaking the bank with transfer fees worth over €100 million because of the current financial condition. However, as reminded by Fabrizio Romano on the Here We Go podcast, Guardiola is one of the smartest people in sports.
Romelu Lukaku and Harry Kane have been linked with massive bids from Manchester City. They won’t spend the big bucks on a single player this summer. They will have a negotiation with a good striker and will do business if it is feasible and justified and will not spend an unbelievable amount as has been the general opinion about their transfer strategy.
It is complicated to sign Harry Kane, and to talk to Daniel Levy will surely not be easy given that Tottenham value Kane as their most important player. The same can be said for Inter Milan and Lukaku.
They will also look at other strikers in the market and could spend €70-80 million on a decent player who could inherit Aguero’s throne.
Sporting defender Nuno Mendes is also in talks with Manchester City. The Portuguese outfit are asking for a sum worth €70-80 million. The general feeling is that the player won’t come for that fee but will City will discuss terms as the season ends. Other clubs are interested too, with the market strategy becoming clearer in May and June with the market strategy outlined.
