Manchester City hope to extend unbeaten run against Manchester United next

Gabriel Jesus

Had anybody said that at the beginning of the campaign by the second half of the season, Manchester City would be on a 21 game winning streak, you would’ve called them crazy, or simply too much of a City fan to know any better.

However, that is exactly what Pep Guardiola has managed to pull off with his team this season after enduring a terribly rocky start to the current season. Additionally, it has gotten to the point where Manchester City have not been in a trailing position in any of their last 19 games and have not even drawn in their last 15 during that time.

This equals a Premier League record set by Arsenal during the 1998/99 season where they, too, went 19 games without being in a losing position for a single minute.

Their most recent victory came against Wolves, where the Cityzens were level on 1-1 at the 79th minute. A double from Gabriel Jesus and a goal from Riyad Mahrez made sure that the game ended 4-1, with the hosts sealing the three points ahead of the visitors.

Pep Guardiola’s men face Manchester United in the derby next, and given their current run of form, they will want to come away with nothing less than three points from the game. With United’s struggles this season against the top 6 opposition, it is unlikely that they will be the ones who end up halting City’s unstoppable run. However, it can never be ruled out for sure in football.
