Manchester City have extended the contract of Ruben Dias only a year after signing the player from Benfica for €68 million. In his first season in the Premier League, the Portuguese managed to help the team to the league title and he also won the player of the season award.
Dias’ new contract ties him down to the club until 2027, and he now has an increased salary due to his contributions for the team. Dias is considered untouchable by the board, and he is one of the most important players under Pep Guardiola.
The Portuguese has established himself as one of the best central defenders in England at 24, and he is yet to reach his peak. As a result, City are taking no chances with his contract and they see him as a long-term part of the team.
City also won the League Cup last term, and made it to the finals of the Champions League but ultimately came up short against Chelsea. This season, the aim will once again be for Guardiola to try and deliver the Champions League alongside potential silverware domestically.
City have signed Jack Grealish as the star recruit of the summer, and have not yet signed any striker. Cristiano Ronaldo was in talks to join them, but the move collapsed once United legends spoke to him. Harry Kane was the main target prior to Ronaldo, and the England captain has now confirmed that he will be staying at Spurs after a long transfer saga.
