Manchester City agree six-year contract extension with Phil Foden

Manchester City have agreed a six-year contract extension with Phil Foden that will make him one of the best-paid youngsters in the world. The pay rise comes as a reward for his rise in importance over the years under Pep Guardiola.

Foden is a boyhood Manchester City fan and came through the academy. He made his debut for the Sky Blues in 2017, and has appeared 130 times for them since. The 21-year-old is now one of the most highly rated youngsters in the world, and was nominated for the 2021 Ballon d’Or award as well.

The player previously signed a renewal with City in 2018, which was for £30,000 a week with a plethora of incentives. Now, Manchester City are keen to keep him satisfied since they believe that he is a vital part of their future. Guardiola himself has claimed that Foden is one of the most impressive youngsters he has seen since Messi at Barcelona.

The England international recently starred as Manchester City drew 2-2 with Liverpool. He had a shaky start to the season due to injury but has now started to show great form on the pitch.

Foden has been used in a variety of positions, such as false 9, winger and attacking midfield as well. His versatility in all those positions is remarkable and he is a very composed and powerful finisher at 21. In the years to come, the Englishman has the potential to be one of the best players in the Premier League.
