Leeds United managed to pick up an upset victory against Manchester City with the scoreline reading 2-1 at the end of the game. The boys from Elland Road did well to build on their 1-1 draw earlier at home this season and this time, came away with all three points after a late winner scored by Stuart Dallas in injury time.
City enjoyed the lion’s share of the ball, with the home side having 71% of the total possession. Having the ball so much, they managed to create 29 chances but had only one goal to show for it, scored by Ferran Torres in the 76th minute.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men only had a quarter of possession but managed to take two shots, both of which resulted in goals. The statistics of course, go on to show a shot accuracy of 100% showing the clinical finishing of the men in white.
Leeds captain Liam Cooper was sent off right before half time for an accidental foul on Gabriel Jesus that was deemed dangerous by VAR. The offender was shown a yellow card by the referee on the pitch, but was later overruled by VAR to limit them down to ten men.
However, 10 men proved to be enough for Bielsa who took off Patrick Bamford and replaced him with Pascal Struijk. The visitors did amazingly well to beat Pep Guardiola’s men at home and prove that they deserve to remain in the Premier League and get better.
City had a rotated squad with Kevin De Bruyne, Ruben Dias, Ilkay Gundogan and Rodri rested for their second leg clash against Dortmund in the Champions League.
Raheem Sterling was particularly wasteful, and could be replaced with the plethora of wingers already at the club due to his lack of clinical finishing despite the number of chances created for him throughout games.
