## The Legacy He Leaves Behind

Salim Kumar made his Malayalam film debut in 1997 and spent nearly three decades building a career defined by laughter, heart, and an extraordinary ability to make audiences feel something real even in the most comedic moments.

Some of his most notable films include *Kalyanaraman*, *Meesha Madhavan*, *CID Moosa*, *Udayapuram Sulthan*, and *Ee Parakkum Thalika*. He appeared alongside Mammootty in films such as *Mayavi*, *Pattalam*, and *Rajamanikyam*; alongside Mohanlal in *Kilichundan Mampazham* and *Christian Brothers*; and alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran in *Chocolate* and *Pokiri Raja*, among many others.

But his greatest recognition as a serious actor came with a role far removed from comedy. He won the National Film Award for Best Actor in 2010 for his deeply moving performance in *Adaminte Makan Abu* — a film that showcased a side of him that surprised and moved audiences across India.

## An Industry in Grief

Prithviraj Sukumaran was among the first to pay tribute, writing on social media: “Farewell, Salim-etta! Thank you for all the memories!” Actor Asif Ali also shared a heartfelt tribute on his social media account. Messages of condolence continued to pour in from across the Malayalam and broader South Indian film fraternity through the night.

## His Family & His Legacy Continues

Salim Kumar is survived by his wife Sunitha and their two sons, Chandu and Aromal. His elder son Chandu Salim Kumar has followed in his father’s footsteps, already appearing in acclaimed films such as *Manjummel Boys*, *Malik*, and *Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra*. The legacy of laughter that Salim Kumar built for nearly 30 years will live on — not just through his films, but through his son’s continued presence in an industry his father helped shape.

Two upcoming films — *Khalifa* and *Tiki Taka* — will now serve as his posthumous releases. [gulfnews](https://gulfnews.com/amp/entertainment/bollywood/bollywood-actor-nora-fatehi-to-collaborate-with-rapper-nicki-minaj-for-the-qatar-world-cup-2022-anthem-1.1668081964316)
