## Match Preview

Atlético Madrid head into the new season looking to close the gap after finishing fourth in La Liga last term, some 25 points off champions Barcelona. Diego Simeone has strengthened the squad significantly this summer, bringing in Morten Hjulmand, Lee Kang-in, and Alejandro Grimaldo to boost depth and creativity heading into the campaign. Preseason form has been encouraging too, with Atlético opening their friendlies with a commanding 4-1 win over Getafe before further tune-up matches against Manchester City and Marseille.

Málaga, meanwhile, arrives at the Metropolitano fresh off promotion, with the club bolstering its defensive options through the signing of Calero ahead of the new campaign. Facing an Atlético side determined to start strong at home, Málaga’s task here is a difficult one, but newly promoted sides have historically found ways to be competitive in their opening fixtures before La Liga’s rhythm fully sets in. Atlético Madrid remains one of Spain’s most successful clubs historically, competing regularly at the top of [La Liga](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Liga) and in European competition.

## Prediction

With home advantage, a freshened-up squad, and strong preseason form behind them, Atlético Madrid enter this one as clear favorites. Expect Simeone’s side to control possession and create the majority of chances, with a comfortable home win the most likely outcome — though Málaga’s organized defensive setup could keep the scoreline tighter than expected.
