Some films don’t win on opening weekend — they win on the rebound. [Main Vaapas Aaunga](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Vaapas_Aaunga), starring Diljit Dosanjh and Vedang Raina, is proving exactly that, more than doubling its opening weekend numbers just one week later.

The Imtiaz Ali directorial closed its 2nd weekend at Rs 12 crore nett, with Rs 5.50 crore coming on 2nd Sunday alone — up 20% from Saturday and a massive 110% jump from its first Sunday. The film’s running total now stands at Rs 24.50 crore nett after ten days in theatres.

## From “Herculean Task” to Genuine Optimism

This is the kind of hold trade trackers love to write about. The film achieved this turnaround despite facing severe showcasing cuts, with several centres running close to capacity over the weekend — strong occupancy that typically signals spillover business in the days ahead. Monday’s advances are already tracking higher than last Friday’s, suggesting the momentum isn’t slowing down.

The comparison being drawn in trade circles is to Dhurandhar — a film that also opened soft but clawed its way to success through sheer word-of-mouth and weekly growth. Just a week ago, even a Rs 10 crore finish looked unlikely for Main Vaapas Aaunga. Now, a respectable run feels genuinely possible.
