Real Madrid drew 1-1 with Real Sociedad in their latest game in LaLiga, passing up an opportunity to go ahead Barcelona on points in the table. The reigning champions now find themselves in third place, level on points with the Blaugrana, but behind on goal difference.

Vinicius Junior was the only Madrid player who got on the scoresheet, finding the back of the net in the 89th to come away with a point from a game that Madrid were just about to lose. Sociedad took the lead early, with Portu converting through an assist from Nacho Monreal to open the scoring.

Sociedad will look at the game as two points dropped than a point salvaged, and they find themselves in 5th, six points behind Sevilla.

Real Madrid were without Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, Sergio Ramos and Dani Carvajal. Lucas Vasquez, Isco, Mariano Diaz and Nacho came in to replace the starters but could not make a significant mark on the game.

On the other side of Madrid, though, Atletico Madrid are still at the top of the table, having won their latest encounter against Villarreal 2-0. The Madrid derby takes place this Sunday, and Atletico are clearly the more confident side heading into the fixture due to their latest victory and their position at the top of the table.

With the inconsistency that Zinedine Zidane’s men have shown throughout the season, Atletico will be fancying their chances to build on the lead that they have, to potentially steer 8 points clear of both Barcelona and Real Madrid.
