Apple has taken a step the Mac has never taken before. The company has announced new MacBook Pro models with an OLED display and touch input, the first time a Mac has supported touch. ## A display built for the Mac

The new panel uses tandem OLED, the same layered approach found in the iPad Pro, which is why Apple is calling it PROLED XDR. It reaches up to 2,000 nits at peak and 1,000 nits sustained, and its variable refresh rate runs from 10Hz to 120Hz. Coverage of the P3 and Adobe RGB colour gamuts makes it suitable for photo and video work. ## Touch is a companion, not a replacement

## Design and sound

The new models are slightly smaller in every dimension and about 200 to 300 grams lighter, depending on the model. A reworked thermal design directs warm air away from the display, and the Apple logo on the lid glows, as it did on older MacBooks. The six-speaker system has new woofers, which Apple says deliver 50% deeper bass, along with new tweeters. The speakers are designed to sound good even with the lid closed.

## Security and what has not changed
