Tottenham Hotspur and Lyon are in talks for the loan transfer of Giovanni Lo Celso until the end of the season. The French club need a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes, who recently left to join Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Lyon will have to cover the player’s salary until the end of the season, which is a figure around £70,000 per week. They will also have to pay a loan fee to the Lilywhites for their man. The two clubs have reached an agreement according to L’Equipe, but the player himself has not agreed to the move just yet.
Giovanni Lo Celso could be on his way to Lyon soon
Lo Celso’s options involve staying at the club and sitting on the bench, or moving to a new club for the next six months and potentially finding more game time. So, it seems a matter of time before he accepts the loan proposal and moves to Ligue 1.
There is no buy option involved in Giovanni Lo Celso’s loan deal with Lyon, which means that Spurs would want to keep him for the next season at least.
The Argentina international has a contract with the London club until 2025, and Spurs will have ample opportunities to sell him later as well, if they feel that he is surplus to requirements. He joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2019 from Real Betis, and has since been in and out of the team.
He is no stranger to French football, having featured for PSG in the past, and could now be on his way back to Ligue 1.
