Grab your trench coat and brace yourself — DCI John Luther is stalking the streets of London again. Netflix has confirmed that the sequel to *Luther: The Fallen Sun* is now actively in production in the UK, with cameras rolling as of February 2026. And if Alice Morgan’s return doesn’t make your jaw drop, you might want to re-watch Season 5.

## The Plot: Luther Is Being Pulled Back Into the Darkness

Netflix has shared the official logline — a fresh wave of brutal, seemingly random murders is tearing through London, and Luther is secretly called back into service. The twist? Everyone on all sides appears to want him dead. It’s a story that picks up directly after *The Fallen Sun*, where Luther found himself uncomfortably aligned with British intelligence.

Creator **Neil Cross** — who also wrote the original BBC series and the first film — returns to pen the screenplay. His excitement is palpable: Luther, Alice, and Schenk aren’t just characters to him, they’re, in his own words, family. That emotional investment shows in every chapter of the [Luther](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luther_(TV_series)) universe, and fans can expect that same depth here.

## The Big Shock: Alice Morgan Is Back

Perhaps the most jaw-dropping development is the return of **Ruth Wilson** as **Alice Morgan** — a character who, in the Season 5 finale, fell from a construction site scaffolding and was left for dead with no funeral, no confirmation of survival. How she survived — and what role she plays in this sequel — is one of the film’s most delicious mysteries.

**Dermot Crowley** also returns as the beloved **DS Martin Schenk**, completing the trio that made the original series so compelling. Director Jamie Payne summed it up best: fans new and old are in for a treat.
