After Toni Kroos and Karim Benzema, Real Madrid are set to extend Luka Modric’s contract in the coming weeks. The Croatian has always maintained that he wants to stay, and eventually retire at the club. And given how influential he still is, there are positive feelings that he will extend his deal until 2024.
In spite of being 37 years old, the midfielder has played 2,696 minutes across all competitions. He has scored six goals and provided the same number of assists in 42 appearances, and is showing very few signs of his age.
Luka Modric to renew contract with Real Madrid
Alongside Kroos, Luka Modric is one of the most important senior players. He not only brings a wealth of quality to their midfield, but is also a leader in the middle of the pitch. And this has helped them make it to the semi-finals of the Champions League once again, while also being in the finals of the Copa del Rey.
Modric will turn 38 in September, but is confident that he will be able to contribute at the top level for at least another year. Talks surrounding his replacement have been doing the rounds for years now, but he has kept on delivering world-class performances for Real Madrid.
The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner will meet the club hierarchy to iron out the details of his new contract in the coming weeks. And an official announcement from the club regarding the renewal can be expected soon afterwards.
