Luka Modric has reached an agreement with Real Madrid to extend his contract until 2024. The veteran’s current deal was set to run out at the end of the season, and he has decided to continue with Los Blancos for one more season now.
The midfielder was on the bench against Girona last night, but made a short cameo, replacing Toni Kroos as they won the Copa del Rey for the 20th time in the club’s history.
Luka Modric agrees renewal with Real Madrid until 2024
The 37-year-old has finally reached a full agreement with the board, after weeks of discussion. However, the plan was always the same for the midfielder – either continue at Real Madrid or retire.
He had a big offer to move to Saudi Arabia, but declined it in favour of a stay at Madrid. In spite of his age, the Croatian continues to put in remarkable performances on the pitch, and has helped the club progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League once again.
Luka Modric isn’t the only veteran that will be continuing at Real Madrid until 2024. Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos have also reached agreements with the club to renew their deals. However, it seems that this could be the beginning of the end for their club legends.
With Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and now, Jude Bellingham at the club, a new era is coming for Los Blancos. And the older generation will be there to possibly hand it over to the youngsters next season.
