Luka Modric is still, at 35, one of the best players in the Real Madrid squad and has been consistently making an impact for Los Blancos in the heart of the park. However, he might not be at the Spanish capital much longer.

This is because the Croatian’s contract expires in the summer of 2021, and he will be free to negotiate with clubs during the upcoming winter transfer window. Hence, the speculation surrounding the midfielder’s next destination is starting to build.

A return to Tottenham, much like former Madrid teammate Gareth Bale, could possibly be on the cards for Luka Modric if the club and the player do not manage to agree on a deal that extends his stay at the Santiago Bernabeu.

According to the Italian transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are still making Modric, as well as club captain Sergio Ramos wait to extend their contracts at the club.

The Ballon d’Or winner has been clear about his desire to stay at Madrid and possibly retire at the club.

‘I feel good, I feel strong, and I still have plenty of football in my legs and strengths to continue, but let’s see what happens in the future’, Modric said to AS last month.

‘I’ve said many times and I’ll say it again, I’m very happy at Madrid and I’d love to end my career here, but let’s see what happens.

‘Who wouldn’t want to end their career at Real Madrid? But it depends on a lot of things. But there is no-one who’d be happier than me to continue at Real Madrid.’

Jose Mourinho will surely be keeping an eye on the midfielder to possibly lure him back to Spurs, and to do it for free, despite his age, would be an absolute steal especially given the form Modric has shown this season.
