Luka Modric has denied rumours of him planning to move to Al-Nassr to reunite with former Real Madrid teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo. The midfielder’s contract expires this summer, and he is yet to agree to an extension with the club.
This has led to rumours that he could leave Real Madrid and join the Saudi Arabian club as a free agent. However, Modric has always maintained that he wants to play and retire with Los Blancos. And his response to the question of Al-Nassr was no different.
Luka Modric responds to Al-Nassr transfer rumours
“My wish is known, to stay at Real Madrid. I believe and hope it will happen. The rest are only assumptions and rumours. I repeat for the 100th time, I hope and believe I will stay at Real Madrid,” he said prior to Croatia’s Euro 2024 Qualifiers.
There have been suggestions that Real Madrid are not agreeing to renew Luka Modric’s contract because he isn’t retiring from the national team. The Croatia captain was one of the best performers at the World Cup once again. But, his form dipped after the competition and the board is wary of this hampering his contribution in the future.
However, the 37-year-old confirmed that he would not be retiring from the national team in order to continue with Real Madrid. As a result, his future is still up in the air with two options – either we see another year of the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner in the white shirt, or it is farewell to arguably the greatest midfielder of a generation.
