Luis Suarez has started his journey with Atletico Madrid in blistering fashion. He has already matched Radamel Falcao’s record for the best goalscoring start at Atletico Madrid in La Liga this century.

Luis Suarez’s 20th-minute goal against Getafe is his 8th goal in his first 11 league matches for his new club. Radamel Falcao has done the same in 2011 for the Rojiblancos. With the win against Getafe, Atletico Madrid ends 2020 at the top of the table in the league.

Luis Suarez left FC Barcelona after 6 seasons and joined Atletico Madrid last summer in a free transfer. Suarez was struggling at FC Barcelona in the last few seasons. Last season he scored 21 goals in 36 appearances for FC Barcelona but much more is expected at Camp Nou from a player of Suarez’s calibre. Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman put the Uruguayan striker out of his plans. So, Suarez joined Atletico Madrid and got his form back under Diego Simeone.

Suarez’s former teammate Lionel Messi in a recent interview with La Sexta said, “I had thought about it before Luis Suarez [left], but that was crazy.”

“I didn’t like the way he left. I didn’t think he deserved to leave like that. He went for free to a team that is fighting for the same things as us.”- he added.

Earlier this season, Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone also revealed that he was also astonished to see the fact that FC Barcelona let Suarez go for free.
