Lucas Ocampos is set to return to Sevilla from Ajax, as officially confirmed by the Spanish club. The winger made the move to the Netherlands this summer, as a replacement for Antony – who joined Manchester United.
But after only playing 114 minutes for the Dutch champions, he is set to return to La Liga. The player was signed on a loan deal from the Basque side, which is now going to be terminated. Ajax will be saving €1 million in total from ending the loan spell early. They had originally agreed a season-long loan with the option to buy, but that has been terminated completely.
Lucas Ocampos to return to Sevilla from Ajax
He originally signed for Sevilla in 2019, and made 135 appearances for the team over three years. During that time, he also picked up a Europa League winner’s medal in 2020 and scored 34 goals for the team.
The Argentine was one of the key players under Julen Lopetegui during his first spell at the club. And right now, Sevilla could use the output from an experienced player like him. They are battling relegation after being title contenders last season, and need to find a way to turn things around.
Perhaps the boost from Lucas Ocampos could help them achieve a mid-table finish during the second half of the season.
