Just when fans thought Nam Joo Hyuk’s plate couldn’t get any fuller, he’s added an emotional new romance to his lineup — and the writing pedigree behind it is turning heads.

On July 23, mydaily reported that **Nam Joo Hyuk** will lead the romance drama **“Heartbeat”** (literal title), with a source close to the actor confirming the news to Ilgan Sports. The series comes from scriptwriter **Lee Si Eun**, known for penning beloved hits like *True Beauty* and *Lovely Runner* — a track record that’s already fueling anticipation.

## What “Heartbeat” Is About

“Heartbeat” is described as an emotional love story that begins when a man who resembles a woman’s deceased first love suddenly appears in her life. The drama follows a woman who can see glimpses of the past, paired with a man forced to conceal his own hidden history. Nam Joo Hyuk will play **Cha Shin Jo**, a character carrying secrets that shape the story’s emotional core — a premise that blends romance with a quieter, more mysterious undertone.

## A Packed Year for Nam Joo Hyuk

This announcement lands right after Nam Joo Hyuk earned praise for his performance in *The East Palace*, and just one day after he was confirmed to star in Disney+’s upcoming mystery crime thriller *Code*. With both a high-stakes thriller and now an emotional romance on his plate, 2026 is shaping up to be a defining year for the actor’s range. The romance genre itself has deep roots in Korean storytelling, drawing on melodrama traditions that trace back to early [Korean cinema](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinema_of_Korea).
