Netflix India is doubling down on unscripted drama, and it’s borrowing a proven hit to do it. The new Netflix Original reality series Lock Upp wasn’t originally made for Netflix — created by producer Ekta Kapoor for Balaji Telefilms, its first season debuted in 2022 on ALTBalaji and MX Player. Now it’s getting a full Netflix makeover.

## Why Netflix Picked Up Lock Upp?

As Netflix India Series Head Tanya Bami looks to ramp up the platform’s unscripted slate, turning to Kapoor — who has a long history with Netflix, having produced Originals like Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitare, Pagglait, Kathal, and Jaane Jaan — makes perfect sense.

To set this season apart, the rebooted version carries the subtitle Sach Ya Sazaa — “Truth or Punishment” — and arrives with new hosts and a shorter season format. The premise stays familiar: fifteen controversial celebrities are sent to “prison” to rehab their public image, competing for creature comforts while exposing personal truths to win favor from jailers and viewers. The last inmate standing wins. [medianews4u](https://www.medianews4u.com/john-abraham-joins-rotterdam-dockers-as-co-owner-ahead-of-european-t20-premier-league-debut/)

Netflix officially describes it as: “A captive reality format that’s made in India, and streamed by the world! India’s most newsworthy personalities are locked away in a new-age prison, all because they have been condemned in the court of public opinion. Will they own their story and fight for their redemption? Or will they be cancelled forever?” [medianews4u](https://www.medianews4u.com/john-abraham-joins-rotterdam-dockers-as-co-owner-ahead-of-european-t20-premier-league-debut/)

Unlike a typical binge drop, the show follows a unique broadcast pattern — new episodes air Saturday through Wednesday at 8 PM IST, with contestants competing for six weeks, a shorter run than Season 1’s 70 days.
