Liverpool left Old Trafford eliminated from the FA Cup by one of their biggest rivals in Manchester United, along with a number of concerning injuries. The game went into extra time, and United were eventually able to win it 4-3 after Amad Diallo scored on the counter attack.
Jurgen Klopp revealed that three attackers suffered knocks after the game ended, causing more alarm bells to ring out. Cody Gakpo came on from the bench, but finished the match with a twisted ankle. Similarly, Luis Diaz suffered a groin injury in the game, and could be sidelined for the foreseeable future, missing the international break with Colombia.
Liverpool’s injury worries deepen after FA Cup elimination
Darwin Nunez suffered a hamstring injury in the game, and has pulled out of the Uruguay national team for the upcoming friendlies. The striker has finally found his finishing ability in England, and has scored 17 goals while providing 14 assists in 42 games across all competitions.
He returned from a hamstring injury sustained in January very recently, and the club will have to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. Otherwise, they could be without a key attacker for a crucial part of the season.
Liverpool are already without Trent Alexander-Arnold, Alisson and Diogo Jota, but all three could return in April alongside Curtis Jones. It now remains to be seen whether Klopp will have to address further absentees or if he will have a close to complete squad at his disposal for the season run-in.
