Liverpool will take on Arsenal in the Carabao Cup Round of 16. So who will win the cup tie and when and where you can watch the match live?
Liverpool and Arsenal have already met in Anfield earlier this season. Joel Matip’s header and Mohamed Salah’s brace earned a 3-1 Premier League win for the Reds back in August.
Jurgen Klopp said about the cup tie against Arsenal: “Although not certain, the strong likelihood is that a number of our younger players will feature in some capacity tonight. In Milton Keynes, Caoimhin Kelleher, Ki-Jana Hoever, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Rhian Brewster all started and equipped themselves superbly. Herbie Kane, Pedro Chirivella and Sepp van den Berg all came on off the bench. Ki-Jana isn’t available to us at the moment because he is away with the Dutch national team with his respective age group.
“The attitude these players showed in the last round is exactly what will be required this evening if again given the opportunity. They show the right attitude and the perfect amount of hunger each and every day they train with us at Melwood. They show us, in their actions, that they understand what an immense privilege it is to represent a club like Liverpool – it’s an honour all of us blessed to work here feel.”
Unai Emery told: “Each match in this competition can be different, and tomorrow is one very good opportunity for us. We will be thinking that the Carabao Cup is important and it’s an opportunity for us to recover confidence and our way.
It’s not important what players they have on the pitch because we need every player and tomorrow we are going to have the possibility to play some different players from Sunday, and also in Europa they can repeat the match.”
So it’s pretty much sure that both Arsenal and Liverpool will rest the regular first-team players and will give the youngsters a chance in the cup tie.
Third-choice goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher along with Rhian Brewster and Harvey Elliott are likely to start for Liverpool. Naby Keita, Adam Lallana and Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain are also in contention to start but Jurgen Klopp is without Xherdan Shaqiri and Joel Matip due to injury.
Meanwhile, Unai Emery has confirmed that Calum Chambers, David Luiz, Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will sit out, but Arsenal’s team could still have a strong look with Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding, Lucas Torreira, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette in the traveling squad. Joe Willock, Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are the young players who could feature with Reiss Nelson still recovering from a knee injury.
