Liverpool are expected to have a massive squad overhaul in the summer, with multiple players expected to leave. The midfield has been the main problem for the club this season, with their current players in that position underperforming massively.
The likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have been extremely out of form. Thiago Alcantara’s injury struggles have not made things any easier for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who currently sit sixth in the table, six points away from the Champions League places.
Liverpool anticipating midfield overhaul in the summer of 2023
Roberto Firmino is already expected to leave the club in the summer, but he is one of their attacking options. Naby Keita’s contract expires in the summer, and there are currently no talks being held with him to renew beyond the season. Injuries have significantly hampered his progress, and he is now expected to move on.
Moreover, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will also leave as a free agent since the club doesn’t see him as a part of their future project. He will be joined by Arthur Melo, who has barely played due to injury. Liverpool will not activate the buy option in his loan deal, and he will return to Juventus at the end of the season.
There is a good chance that James Milner could also end his stay at the club, with his deal running out in the summer. The 37-year-old has been called upon as a full-back on several occasions this season. But given the severity of their performance, it seems unlikely that the club will extend his stay beyond this year.
