Liverpool sign Olympiacos defender Kostas Tsimikas

Liverpool defender Lovren has left the club this summer, so they were in search of a new defender who could also provide competition to Andy Robertson. They tried to sign Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis but didn’t agree with the Canaries’ valuation of £20m for the player.

Liverpool has now signed 24-year-old Greece international from Olympiacos on a four-year deal for a reported transfer fee of around £11.75m (€13m).

Tsimikas told Liverpool’s official website: “I’m very happy, I’m very proud to be here. For me, [it’s] the biggest club in the world. It’s an honour to be here and I will give my best.”

“The league here, I like a lot. I watch it on the TV and it was always one dream I had from when I was a kid to come to play in this league and to come through.”

“With a lot of work and focus on what I do and what the coach wants, and every day working hard in training, I can be on the highest level.

“[I want] to achieve [our] goals. To win the league again and also to win the Champions League.”

Tsimikas featured 46 times in all competitions for Olympiacos and lead the club to become the Greek Super League champions. He provided seven assists in the 2019-20 season. He will now play for the Premier League champions and wear the No 21 shirt.
