Liverpool owe £40 million to Wolves for Diogo Jota

Liverpool are yet to complete the payment for the signing of Diogo Jota from Wolves this past summer. The Portuguese forward joined the reigning champions for a proposed fee worth £45 million and recent findings have revealed that Liverpool have only paid £5 million of that fee in total, with £40 million yet to be paid.

The Merseysiders paid £4 million during the arrival of the player at Anfield and paid another £1 million during the winter. They will be asked to pay up a sum worth £12 million this summer, and additional payments will eventually make the sum worth the proposed amount.

The deal was one of the few big money signings that Liverpool made during last season, alongside Thiago from Bayern. Payments for the deal will be made in the form of installments to help facilitate a regular flow of cash during the difficult financial situation in place right now, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Jota has been a fine addition to Liverpool’s squad, and was their best performing player before being hit by an injury that put him out of action for the winter, and the beginning of the new year. He is now back in the squad, and got on the scoresheet against his former club in Liverpool’s most recent victory against his former club, Wolves.

In hindsight, the deal was one of the best value for money transfers of 2020 considering the impact that the forward has had on an already world class squad.
