Liverpool-Gini Wijnaldum talks getting ‘complicated’

Here's the latest on Wijnaldum contract update

Talks between Liverpool and Dutch midfielder Gini Wijnaldum regarding a contract renewal have been going on for the last seven months, according to Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio on the Here We Go podcast on Patreon.

The transfer insiders further went on to say that the negotiations between the two parties are now becoming complicated. Wijnaldum’s contract is set to expire in the summer, and with less than six months remaining on his current deal with the Premier League champions, he is free to negotiate with other clubs regarding a pre-contract agreement.

As reported by the Italian journalist earlier, Wijnaldum is taking his time to reflect on the offer made by Liverpool and should he choose to leave the club at the end of the ongoing campaign, he will respectfully communicate his desire to the club.

Rumours have been running rampant since the summer of 2020 linking the Dutch midfielder with a switch to Barcelona in a reunion with former Netherlands national team manager Ronald Koeman.

There’s still no agreement between Wijnaldum and Liverpool to extend the contract. Last bid was made in early December, Gini has not accepted yet.

Along with Memphis Depay, Wijnaldum is expected to join the Blaugrana during the summer transfer window of 2021.

The last bid for a contract extension was made in early December, and no communication has been received yet from the side of the player. Liverpool are currently prioritising new contracts for star players Virgil Van Dijk and Fabinho to avoid a similar situation with them in the future.
