Liverpool almost signed David Carmo of Braga and could pursue him again in the summer

Braga’s David Carmo will be one of the players Liverpool target for a big-spending next summer. That is according to transfer insiders Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio on the Here We Go podcast on Patreon.

On the night before deadline day, they were looking for another player alongside Ben Davies, who joined the club from Preston North End. Kabak’s move was pursued the next morning, the deadline day.

They were trying to sign Carmo on deadline day eve and Braga wanted a €30 million release clause. No breakthrough was reached between the two clubs as Braga rejected Liverpool’s formal offer for the player. Medicals were held during lunchtime, but the deal collapsed.

Two bids were turned down during lunchtime on deadline day while David Carmo was having medicals for the Liverpool move which ultimately did not go through.

Ozan Kabak was Schalke’s most valuable player back when he was in the squad, and Liverpool have got themselves an option to buy, not an obligation. Looking back on the transfer saga, Carmo was considered as a serious option to solve Liverpool’s centre-back injury crisis.

Other Premier League clubs, alongside Liverpool could move for him in the future. But for now he remains an important asset for the club.

There was no prior expectation for two CB transfer deals from Liverpool. It was a surprise from the club, with Romano saying that he only expected one transfer for players at centre-back this transfer window.
